Description:
Our tiny team came together in late June 2024 with a common goal: to give back to the community in meaningful ways that would support individuals and families facing challenges in their daily lives given the cost-of-living crisis we are all being hit with, but some are being hit much harder than others.
We currently run a 'Community Donation Shop' run entirely by volunteers (including the directors none of whom are paid! )
Each of us work on the ethos that everything is offered as a low and affordable price to ensure that all our pricing are attainable for everyone.
We are a small band of community driven individuals who have come together to strive to enhance the lives of our local community as we are the most isolated town within Cumbria. Situated 25 miles away from the nearest hospital or supermarket. Along with which mental health is 12% above the national average. There are high levels of poverty within the town, but also a high level of community resilience of which we aim to build upon. By establishing a sustainable and inclusive platform that offers numerous growth prospects. Our primary focus is on delivering coordinated local services that prioritise and enhance the health, wellbeing, personal development and educational opportunities of individuals of our community.
Since January 6th 2025 we opened up a small food, advice and guidance hub, aimed at offering truly affordable food at prices everyone can afford, we work with many private, governmental, medical, third-sector organisations to ensure that there is the chance for clients to be referred to them to receive the correct advice and guidance that may be required, in turn they can refer clients to us for our support no matter if that is clothing, homewares or food, we have a contingency whereby we can ensure that they are truly cared for.
But financially for us that can be extremely challenging as we are dependant upon the generosity of others.
But also by fostering partnerships with various stakeholders, including private, voluntary and public sectors we seek to maximise our impact and effectiveness in serving the community. Our commitment lies in building a strong foundation that promotes community engagement, looks to reduce food poverty, encourage self empowerment and resilience, ultimately leading to a more vibrant and thriving environment for all our residents of Millom And Around The Combe.
