Description:
Swansea Community Farm, like an outdoor community centre, offers unique opportunities for people to learn about the environment, healthy living and sustainability whilst taking an active role in their local community. With 3.5 acres of paddocks, pastures and accessible buildings/grounds, the Farm ensures that all activities have a negative impact on the environment whilst helping to enhance local biodiversity and encourage nature conservation.
As the only established community-led city farm in Wales, we are a unique resource run by local people for the benefit of the community which is reflected with more than 7,000 visitors, 1500 school children, 500 teachers, 250 youth members and 230 adult volunteers taking part in activities each year.
Through a range of programmes, projects and other services, the Farm delivers its three core aims which are:
Community and Integration - creating and maintaining a welcoming and supportive social network made up of people of all ages and abilities working together to create an accessible community resource.
Environment - promoting sustainable development in an environmentally friendly way that supports and respects wildlife and provides its animals with the highest standards of humane care.
Personal Growth and Participation - providing stimulating opportunities for participants to develop skills as they in turn contribute meaningfully to the development of the Farm community.
