Description:
The THREE HILLS ACTION TRUST is a small charity which helps to make dreams into a reality for the villagers of an impoverished rural area called Nguu Tatu (meaning Three Hills in Swahili) in Kenya. The Trust focuses on the educational development of the children in the local nursery school but also supports the health, welfare and basic educational needs of the adult community.
It was set up in 2009 after two of the Trust?s co-founders went to Kenya on a safari holiday and were overwhelmed by the poverty they witnessed. Fuelled by their desire to help the children they had met in the nursery school, the Trust was founded initially to raise some funds to provide the children with basic school equipment such as pencils and exercise books but with the help of two friends, the Trust has been developed into a registered UK charity which now supports the long-term sustainable livelihood of the children and villagers.
The Trust consists of 5 trustees and a small number of committed volunteers who raise funds to keep our projects alive. Funds are raised through money collection boxes, raffles, car booting every Sunday, the selling of artwork created by one of our trustees, a small tuck shop in an Australian hospital, support from local business and primary schools, donations of equipment and clothing, bake sales, dress down days and events such as sponsored cycling and running, the Yorkshire and National Three Peaks Challenges and even a sponsored Harlem shake!
We want to emphasize that all the money raised goes directly to the charity and its projects. We do not have any administration or advertising costs or salaries. This enables us to focus all of our funding on the children and villagers of Nguu Tatu.
