We are fundraising for the neonatal unit at Leighton hospital where our beautiful Sienna spent 12 days after birth. We will be completing 12 fitness events over the year for the 12 days Sienna was in NICU. The fitness events will range from: hybrid events, half marathons, trail runs, 10ks, mountain climbing and obstacle courses. This will come as a challenge, especially being 3 months post partum when we start the challenge! 

Sienna was born prematurely due to mum having ICP in pregnancy a rare liver condition. Sienna was born weighing 4lbs 7oz and at 2 hours after birth Sienna required the support of the neonatal unit as she suffered with respiratory distress syndrome. During Sienna’s time in NICU she required oxygen support (CPAP, high flow), phototherapy 3 times, cannula IV fluids and she was intubated/extubated on day 2 of her life so she could be administered surfactant into her lungs which required for her to be sedated and then ventilated following this.

As a family this was a harrowing experience to go through including trying to keep some normality for our 2 year old but also wanted to be at sienna’s bedside 24/7. Our beautiful girl is now thriving and we feel forever in debt to the neonatal unit for the life saving support they gave to our daughter and the support they gave to us as parents whilst we were in there so we would like to give something back to them by fundraising.
