My story

Thank you to my 19 family and friends who are taking part in the Belfast marathon to raise vital funds for the charity!
You can read about my life-altering experience with M.E. since 2020. “How a promising triathlete was left bedridden by cruel disease.”  here -  James’s Story

Myalgic Encephomyelitis (ME) is a serious, chronic, complex, and systemic disease associated with neurological, immunological, autonomic, and energy metabolism dysfunction. Individuals with ME/CFS experience a range of symptoms including significant impairment in function, post-exertional malaise, sleep impairment, cognitive issues, pain, orthostatic intolerance, flu-like symptoms, sensory intolerance, gastrointestinal and genitourinary issues.

Post-exertional malaise (PEM) is the hallmark of the disease in which even trivial amounts of activity result in a prolonged exacerbation of symptoms and a further reduction in function.
There is no effective treatment nor cure.

The charity is entirely, patient-volunteer-led, supported by our family members and has been campaigning for specialist M.E. services in Northern Ireland since 2011:
-liaising with the Department of Health and Public Health Agency N.I.
-co-produced a series of M.E. webinars with HSC Clinical Education Centre and GPNI
-offers a CPD certified education course for healthcare providers and medical students,
-hosts annual educational conferences for healthcare providers,
-provides fellowship and support and is a vital lifeline for patients and their family members.
