30 Hills Challenge - Celebrating 30 years of Children in Scotland

Event dates: 11th November 2023 – 17th November 2023

Judith Turbyne is raising money for Children in Scotland

My story

For some time now I have wondered what I might do to celebrate the fact that Children in Scotland is 30 this year. A couple of weeks ago in a lurgy/flu-shot fuelled feverish state I came up with a brilliant idea (or so it seemed at the time).
And now I am going to put it into action.

I am going to do something to shine the spotlight on our wonderful organisation and hopefully raise a bit of money. In particular, I am interested in supporting our membership service and our children and young people’s advisory group, Changing our World. They are both an essential part of the DNA of Children in Scotland or, perhaps more accurately, the beating heart of the organisation.

So, I am going to climb 30 hills in a week. Gulp.

I am going to choose hills of all sizes. I love a small hill as much as a big one. There will be a Munro, a Corbett and a Graham or two. But there will also be some of these small, perfectly formed hills that alter our landscape from our biggest cities to our most isolated rural areas.
I am hoping that I will have some company for some of the hills, and that I can persuade some of our staff and board (old and new) and our members to come with. But ultimately, the challenge is on me. In the alone moments, it will be a great opportunity for me to reflect on my first two years in the post and to think about the next two. I think that it will all help me reinvest in my energy and creativity for the challenges ahead.

I will try and give a wee update about each hill no matter how large or small and I’d love you to follow me on my journey. And if you can spare a pound or two, then that would be very welcome too.

As my old boss used to say … onwards and upwards

If you or anyone you know can support Children in Scotland financially, it would mean such a lot, particularly at the moment when funds are so tight.

Thank you

Jude

My updates

Thank you soooo much to everyone who has supported me so far. Very generous. Less than two weeks to go. The days are getting shorter and I am going to have to plan well to fit it all in. But I have an itinerary now and beginning to (sort of) look forward to it. Training has included being on the hills, but also just walking up steep braes near my house.

Thank you to everyone who has had a peek at the challenge so far, and to everyone who has supported it. I am looking out at the rain now and hoping it gets it all out of its system, so that in November there is some wonderful autumnal sun.
