Nathan Towers is raising money for Rainbows Children's Hospice and British Red Cross

My story

Since the 9th of February, I've been running an Ultramarathon distance of 30 miles every day.

The target is to run a total of 40 Ultramarathons in 40 days to mark my 40th birthday this year. This will amount to a total of 1200 miles.

My hope is that this challenge will raise some much-needed funds for 2 very important charities. Any support would mean the world to me.

Rainbows Children's Hospice

When our son Jack was born, what we hoped would be a magical moment turned into an unimaginable nightmare. A terrifying and rare birth complication meant he was deprived of oxygen for a full 11 minutes and was limp and floppy with no heartbeat or breath. It took a further 6 minutes for the doctors to resuscitate him, and he was then rushed to neonatal care to be cooled in an incubator for 3 days, a procedure used to halt any further brain damage that he may have suffered, which could lead to, among other things, severe disability or death. The week-long wait for us, not knowing if he would even survive and not being able to even hold him for the first few days, was unbearable.

Thankfully and unbelievably, the best possible outcome happened for us, and we now have an extremely healthy, happy, bright little boy who was recently given the all-clear after 2 years of hospital observations. We have been extremely lucky but sadly many families are not so fortunate. For that reason, I have chosen Rainbows Children Hospice which provides support for hundreds of families every year with children and young people who have a life-limiting or life-threatening condition.

The British Red Cross

The British Red Cross helps people in crisis, responding to disasters, conflicts and individual emergencies here in the UK and across the world. Currently, in Ukraine, people’s lives are in danger, many have been forced to flee, losing their homes, being separated from their loved ones. Your donations would support the British Red Cross to provide food, first aid, clean water, shelter support, warm clothing, hygiene parcels and medicines, as well as supporting hospitals and healthcare facilities, helping families stay in contact with each other and much more.

The past few years have been tough for everybody both mentally and financially, but if you could spare a couple of quid to help these two causes, I and they would be very much appreciated.

Thank you x
