Adrian Smith & Andrew Moon are raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support
Adrian and Andy have signed up to take on one of Macmillan Cancer’s ‘Mighty Hikes’, a marathon from Stow-on-the-Wold to the majestic Blenheim Palace, on 19th July.
There are Macmillan Mighty Hikes all over the country, but they were lucky to have one locally and described as “flat with easy terrain”.
In the last couple of years, they have both seen close family members diagnosed with cancer and the impact it has on their lives.
With less than a month to go they have been sticking to Macmillan’s ten-week training programme to give themselves the best chance of completing the 26 miles. Finishing in a reasonable time will be a bonus.
Something about Macmillan:
Macmillan Cancer Support is one of the largest British charities and provides specialist health care, information and financial support to people affected by cancer. It also looks at the social, emotional and practical impact cancer can have, and campaigns for better cancer care. Macmillan Cancer Support's goal is to reach and improve the lives of everyone affected by cancer in the UK.
Thank you for checking out our page. Making a donation is fast, easy and secure thanks to Give as you Live Donate. They'll take your donation and pass it onto Macmillan Cancer Support.
Adrian finds a handy bench to rest and take in the view.
Adrian’s training has predominantly been on the Cotswold Way and last weekend some challenging elevation changes were made much harder by the extreme heat. Rewarded with some great views over Cheltenham. This latest walk given the conditions was a very respectable 12 miles.
Andy enjoying some refreshment after a walk along a section of the Templer Way with his walking coach and mentor, Rose Wood. The Templer Way in Devon traces the historic route of granite being taken from the quarries at Haytor to the docks at Teignmouth.
Rose is a member of the Long Distance Walkers Association, and as well as taking part she often assists with marshalling and checkpointing at some of their big events, most recently ‘The Flower of Suffolk’, a 100 mile challenge event put on by the Norfolk and Suffolk group of the LDWA.
Sound advice so far for a novice has been to visit specialist hiking / trekking stores and seek expert advice. Make sure you take the right food and of course plenty of water, and some spare in case you meet someone who needs some.
Your donations will help the great work Macmillan Cancer Support do.
