Perkins Great Eastern Half Marathon

Event date: 11th October 2015

Amy Henson is raising money for VHL UK/Ireland

My story

Hello!

Because running one half marathon isn't enough I will be completing the PGE half marathon on October 11th to fundraise for VHL UK/Ireland.

My target is to raise £150, the money will go towards providing funds for research into the genetic conditions and hopefully if raised enough, towards the equipment to assist the research.

The VHL gene effects 1 in 32,000 people. Approx 10,000 people in the United States and 200,000 worldwide - several of those people being a family very close to my heart.

Sites at risk include: kidney, retina, spinal cord, brain, pancreas, adrenal gland and inner ear. Studies of the VHL gene have resulted in approval of multiple cancer drugs. Particularly in the case of the kidney and pancreas, if not treated correctly, tumours can advance to malignant forms of cancer. Currently there is no approval of drugs for treating VHL. Curing Von-Hippel Lindau brings us one step closer to curing many forms of cancer.

Thank you to everyone who has supported, sponsored and also helped raise awareness of this rare genetic disease.

Thank you for checking out my page. Making a donation is fast, easy and secure thanks to Give as you Live Donate. They'll take your donation and pass it onto VHL UK/Ireland.
