Aniqa Memorial Cup Charity Cricket Match 2024
The team behind 'The Aniqa Memorial Cup' are raising money for EDHI International Foundation UK
Our story
The idea of having an annual charity cricket match began in 2009 when we lost our dear brother Marshall Mir Ali. Marshall was preparing for a bike ride to raise money for Islamic Relief when he sadly passed away in Richmond Park. We all felt we should try to do something to help his cause, so we arranged a charity cricket match amongst ourselves. It was a small but successful event which raised a modest but important £800.
The following year Hasnain's (Cos) daughter Aniqa Syed passed away aged 6 months, so fundraising began in ernest for Great Ormond Street Hospital... and the 'Aniqa Memorial Cup' was created.
Since then, our group have friends have come together to organise charity cricket matches to fundraise for a number of various charities over the years.
The annual charity cricket matches have since raised money for the following causes:
2009: £800 for Islamic Relief (in memory of Marshall Ali)
2010: £7000 for Great Ormond Street Hospital (in memory of Aniqa Syed)
2011: Raised £7300 for One Degree - Adnan Jaffery Educational Trust (in memory of Adnan Jaffery)
2013: £7000 for the National Autistic Society
2014: £4000 for Great Ormond Street Hospital
2015: £4000 for Brookfield House
Unfortunately, for some years we were unable to continue with our annual events due to a number of restrictive factors, but this year we are bringing the charity cricket match back and have again come together to fundraise for a very worthy cause, The Edhi International Foundation UK.... in memory of the late Syed Fida Hussain to whom this charity was very dear.
The Edhi Foundation is named after husband and wife Mr. Abdul Sattar Edhi and Mrs. Bilquis Edhi. It is a globally recognised charity offering one of the best social welfare service providers in Pakistan and across the world running on non-commercial, non-political, and non-communal basis, serving round-the-clock without any discrimination of color, class, and creed.
The diversified fields in which Abdul Sattar Edhi played his greatest role for; saving the lives of thousands of newborn babies by placing the cradles outside the Edhi centres, fostering the abandoned babies and children, free nurturing disabled and handicapped people, free caring and feeding women and elderly people who were subjected to torture or neglected by their families, free supporting to ailing patients by providing free medication and medicines through his mobile dispensaries, hospitals, and the diabetic centres.
