10k Cheltenham Challenge for Ronald McDonald House

On 18th June 2017 I will be taking part in my first ever 10k at the Cheltenham Challenge. For those who know me will testify that I am not great at running long distance, so this is a big step up from my usual 5k! Ronald McDonald House is a great charity that needs continuous support from as many people as possible. Having seen the work they do first hand to support families with seriously ill children in hospital, it does spur me on to raise as much money as possible for them.

The Ronald McDonald House Charities provides 'home away from home' accommodation for families with children in hospital, somewhere free to stay for as long as they need to. There are currently 14 Ronald McDonald Houses across the UK, all just a stone's throw from the children's ward. Together, they provide free accommodation for over 7,300 families each night of the year. It currently costs £25 a night to accommodate one family in one of the Houses.

Many families travel miles from home so that their child can receive expert medical care from specialist children's hospitals across the UK. Often, children have to remain in hospital for months at a time, so for the families, staying close to their child can be a struggle. Without a local Ronald McDonald House, many parents have to sleep on a chair by their child's bed, on a pull down bed if this is available, or pay vast sums of money for hotel accommodation.

Ronald McDonald House Charities is determined to help as many of these families as possible by continuing to run the Houses, and by opening new Houses where there is a need. But they can't do this without help!
