Atlantic Challenge

Event dates: 10th November 2019 – 11th December 2019

Nick Hine is raising money for Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust, Turn To Starboard, Sea Sanctuary and Wetwheels Solent CIC

My story

As many of you know Nick Hine is a keen sailor. At some point in most sailor's minds the desire to sail an ocean raises its head. Nick and his crew will sail his yacht, Luci di Mare, a Hallberg Rassy 412 across the Atlantic in November 2019.

His crossing will start from the Canaries on 10 November 2019, go via Cape Verde (865 miles and a week's sail) and then over to Saint Lucia. This will be approximately 3,000 miles and will take between 21 and 28 days.

Nick and his crew plan to raise money for sailing charities who use sailing to help those less fortunate namely;

  • Ellen Macarthur Cancer Trust; helping young people with cancer
  • Wet Wheels Solent; helping those with disabilities
  • Sea Sanctuary; helping those with mental health problems
  • Turn to Starboard; helping serving and retired armed forces readjust after operational tours

Nick is looking to raise money for these charities so please give generously. He is also looking for sponsors willing to donate between £1,000 and £5,000 for this trip and the charities. Sponsors will be displayed on the boat and will be given a sail on the boat after the crossing. You will be able to track his progress online via worldcruising.com Nick will also do regular blogs and updates for the trip along with raising further funds for the charities.

We hope that you can support this challenge and that the money raised can help the charities use sailing to help those less fortunate than ourselves.
