Beth and Chloe take on Tough Mudder (we can't believe it either)

Event date: 26th September 2015

Chloe and Beth is raising money for VHL UK/Ireland

My story

So we've been thinking for a while now of the perfect way to raise the most money we possibly could for a very well deserved but largely unknown charity, VHL. After a few Voddy Cranberries on a Friday night we came up with the amazing/slightly stupid idea of entering a tough mudder.

Now this is stupid because of 2 reasons;

  1. Its a half marathon...we're seriously unfit and occasionally get tired after running up the stairs
  2. Neither of us can do a single press up. So watching us attempt a number of ridiculous obstacles such as climbing up walls, monkey bars, getting electrocuted and swimming in ice water will be interesting.

What is VHL and why have we completely lost the plot and agreed to this?
VHL is a rare genetic disease where tumours develop on your key organs. In many cases these remain benign and you can live a normal life. In other cases these tumours can turn malignant, resulting in operations and treatment. There currently isn't a cure and many people have never even heard of VHL. Getting recognition is half the battle and we are raising money to help research into what causes VHL and hopefully one day find a cure.

Our amazing friend Roxanne has battled with VHL her whole life and most people would never even know. Unfortunately last year Roxanne found that a tumour had grown on her pancreas and was cancerous. After an 8 hour operation and having the tumour removed she has made an amazing recovery. We are so proud of her and each day she gets stronger and stronger. Her recovery is ongoing and this year she found more tumours on her adrenal glands. Determined not to let it get to her she carries on fighting. Having seen what she has gone through in the last 18 months makes tough mudder seem a little easier, we can't really complain about having to throw ourselves through rings of fire and getting electrocuted when Roxanne has gone through what she has.

Any donations would be appreciated for this amazing cause and if we're feeling extra nice we might let you come and watch.

Love Beth and Chloe (BG and Chloz) xxx
