Our story

🚴 Birmingham Irish Cycle Appeal 2025 – Riding for George & David

This year, we’re taking on the Birmingham Irish Cycle Appeal 2025 together — riding the East Coast of Ireland in memory of two very special people:
George Healy (our dad and uncle) and David O’Driscoll (father-in-law and friend).
Following our rides along the West Coast in 2023 and the 32 Counties in 2024, this year’s challenge is by far the most personal.

💙 In Memory of George Healy (Dad & Uncle)

George was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2014. While the disease slowly impacted his health, his spirit and humour never faded. In 2023, he made the journey to Malin Head to cheer us on at the finish line of the West Coast cycle — despite not being well. It was a moment we’ll never forget.
He would have loved nothing more than to be part of this ride — supporting from the van, navigating the Irish roads, and soaking in the atmosphere. We shared many road trips around Ireland with him, and this ride feels like something he should be part of — and in a way, he will be.

💚 In Memory of David O’Driscoll – Father-in-Law & Friend

David was more than family — he was a great friend. Over 11 years, we shared many laughs and countless good memories. He was a brilliant dad and grandad to Jennifer and Joseph and a big part of our lives.
David bravely fought cancer and was cared for with compassion by the Solas Cancer Support Centre. Their support during such a difficult time meant so much to the entire family, and we’re forever grateful.

💛 Supporting Three Incredible Charities

We’re raising funds for three amazing causes that mean a great deal to our family:

1. St Vincent de Paul Society (SVP) – Yardley Wood / Our Lady of Lourdes Parish

A vital local charity offering direct help to individuals and families facing poverty and isolation. Our mom is an active volunteer, and we’ve seen first-hand the difference their work makes in the community.

2. Solas Cancer Support Centre – Waterford

A lifeline for people living with cancer in the South East of Ireland. Their free services and emotional support helped David and the whole family through a very difficult time.

3. UHCW Parkinson’s Research Clinical Trial – Coventry

University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire is taking part in a groundbreaking clinical trial to slow or stop the progression of Parkinson’s disease. This research offers hope to families like ours affected by Parkinson’s.

This past year has been incredibly difficult without George and David by our sides. They are truly missed and never forgotten.

This ride is for them — for the memories, the laughter, the road trips, the hard moments, and the hope for better futures for others going through the same.

Every mile we ride and every pound we raise will help support the work of these incredible charities.

If you can donate, thank you — your support means the world to us and the people these charities help every day.
