Mike Jones is raising money for The Robin Cancer Trust
This summer I’m taking on a challenge that’s a little different… I’ll be running an ultramarathon carrying two bright pink 6kg kettle bells, decorated as a pair of testicles.
Why? Because every single day in the UK, six men are diagnosed with testicular cancer. If caught early, it’s highly treatable – but too often men don’t talk about it, don’t check themselves, and lives are lost that could have been saved.
I recently met Toby, the founder of the Robin Trust Cancer Foundation. He lost his brother far too early to testicular cancer, and his story really struck a chord with me. No one should lose a brother, a son, a father, or a friend to something that’s so curable if caught early.
I’m an ultra-endurance enthusiast, and I also love strength training. So it occurred to me: what if I combined both to create a challenge that would turn heads and get people talking? That’s how this idea was born.
The kettle bells weigh 12kg together – that’s over 15% of my body weight. By the end of the Thames Path Ultra Challenge, I’ll have taken more than 60,000 steps with them in my hands. That adds up to carrying the equivalent of 719,000 tonnes of weight across 50km. It’s going to be brutal, but that’s the point – it’s meant to start conversations.
I’ll be running the first 50km ultramarathon with the kettle bells, and then I’ll continue supporting Toby as he takes on his epic 100km challenge.
This is about more than just the miles. It’s about raising awareness, getting guys to check themselves, and making sure fewer families go through the pain that Toby’s did.
If you can support me by donating to the Robin Trust Cancer Foundation, you’ll be helping us raise awareness and fund vital work to make sure fewer men are lost to this disease.
Together, we can make sure more lives are saved.
Please donate whatever you can – every contribution makes a difference.

It gets easier. Every day it gets a little easier. But you gotta do it every day that's the hard part. But it does get easier
