Bowel Screening Dragon Boat Team - The Adenoma Avengers!

The Bowel Screening team (and friends!) are taking part in the Northwich river festival Dragon Boat races, to raise funds for the Mid Cheshire Hospitals Charity.

We are proud as a team to work for Mid Cheshire Hospitals, and help support the great work of the charity by raising funds to support the vital work they do, to support patients, families and staff.

Many members of the team have witnessed first hand how the funds raised and projects supported by the charity help our colleagues to go the extra mile to provide exemplary care to patients. One such project is the End of lLife Care appeal, which has already provided sleeper chairs and comfort packs amongst other things, to make it more comfortable for families to spend the last hours of life with their loved ones. This vital appeal, amongst others the charity supports, needs additional funds to build upon existing work, support new projects and continue to provide the additional support that is needed every day in an acute hospital.

We are stepping out of our comfort zone to try and race a boat down the river in Northwich, co-ordinating steering and paddling whilst trying not to crash into other boats or capsize!

Our colleague Gemma has also written a paddling song she wants us to learn and chant to help keep time as we go:
‘SPLASH AND DASH , ROW REAL FAST!
CHECK THOSE GUTS, DON’T COME LAST!
POLYPS FLEE WHEN WE APPEAR!
SCREENING STRONG -NO SIGNS OF FEAR!
PADDLE HARD, RACE WITH MIGHT!
FLUSHING DOUBTS!....BOWELS ALL RIGHT!!’

On top of this we are also aiming to have a health promotion stand at the event to help raise awareness of the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme and how checking you poo could save your life.
