Devon Coast Safari 2016

Event date: 20th May 2016

Simon Mayell is raising money for Heathercombe Brake Trust

My story

Reuben, Jacob, Sally and I were privileged to attend the first Camp Courageous at Heatree Activity Centre on Dartmoor in 2015, along with 10 other families, each with a child with Down's Syndrome.

We saw our children achieve amazing things. We shared experiences with other families and learnt from each other. We laughed and played and challenged ourselves, freed from the stresses of everyday life by the amazing team of staff and volunteers at Heatree. (The video below gives a flavour of what Camp Courageous meant to us all. Look out for the boys and I, Sally somehow managed to stay out of shot for three days!)

To give a little back, I am leading and taking part in a 24hr expedition to raise funds for the charity behind Camp Courageous. Please give generously so Camp Courageous can happen again this year.

The Devon Coast Safari will be an epic, non stop relay 130 miles along the South Devon Coast from Lyme Regis to Plymouth. We will walk / run 76 miles on the South West Coast Path. We will cycle 50 miles along coastal roads, kayak across Bigbury Bay and across 5 rivers.

We are aiming to do this in under 24 hours, starting with an overnight marathon!

Our kids showed us at Camp Courageous what can be achieved if you set yourself a challenge and rise to it... we're going to se if we've got some of that same courage to get us through this epic challenge.

Ultimately its about raising funds so please do sponsor me now. But we will also need support on the day so if you can come along and join the fun please get in touch for more details(simon.j.mayell@gmail.com)

Maybe you can cheer us on when we're struggling to keep going? Maybe you'll walk with us a while? Maybe you fancy taking part and want to raise some sponsorship too. Maybe you can help with logistics (we're going to need food and drink stations and boats, bikes and maybe people moved around from place to place).

So I hope to see you out on the coast on the 20th May, meanwhile thanks for sponsoring me, your generosity is really appreciated, Simon
