My story

UPDATE: Thank you so much to everyone who attended, donated, supported and helped make this event happen - we raised a magnificent net £30,400 for Red Trouser Day & Bowel Cancer Research at The Royal Marsden - I am very proud of what we achieved and grateful to you all - if you can make a beer on the evening of 20-Sep we will back at the Sports Bar & Grill for a couple - Chappers 10-Sep

To mark my 1st year in remission, I am hosting a fun and rewarding evening raising money for the 'Red Trouser Day' Charity, who are in support of Bowel Cancer research at 'The ROYAL MARSDEN'. Through raising awareness of bowel cancer and with the monies raised, the Marsden team can take further strides into beating the Cancer beast.

Please join us at this fantastic Canary Wharf event at The Sports Bar & Grill, Crossrail Place. The evening's entertainment will start off at 7pm, hosted by MC Duncan Newton, with some excellent live music by singer/songwriter Georgia Strand followed by the No 1 Rolling Stones tribute band, "The Rollin' Stoned".

There will also be an auction and raffle with some awesome prizes donated by local businesses and individuals, with 'DJ Jack Locker' seeing us through to midnight.

Full schedule is shown below.

We will also be holding a separate optional Pool and Darts Challenge sponsored by 'The Sports Bar & Grill'.
The Pool Challenges will be held throughout the day with Robert 'Chappers' Chapman playing non-stop from 8am through to 8pm (toilet breaks allowed ☺). The Darts Challenges will run from 6pm to 11pm and will be led by Steve 'The Grocer' Nichols.

Full Pool & Darts Details will be announced shortly - please email bob@redtrouserday.com or text to 07932 696264 to register your interest.

MY STORY

Following a slight change in bowel movements but with no other obvious side effects, I attended an unromantic routine colonoscopy and polyp removal procedure on Valentine's Day last year. At a follow-up results appointment a few week's later, I became a member of the dreaded Cancer population when the Doctor told me: 'We have found a trace of cancer...you will have to follow the cancer care path now'.

Almost to the day, this time last year (9th May), I continued my journey down that cancer care path and into the unknown - fortunately for me, I was heading to Fulham Road and The Royal Marsden Hospital, to be cared for by the expertise and brilliance of their amazing team.
The following 6 weeks of chemo and radiotherapy was tough mentally for me but with the help of my family & friends and the Marsden team on my side, I felt very strong & positive about the outcome of my daily visits to the hospital.

One year on, in 6 weeks time, it's pay back time ☺. To toast my 1st year in remission, I am hosting a fun and rewarding evening raising money for the 'Red Trouser Day' Charity who have teamed up with 'The ROYAL MARSDEN Cancer Charity' to raise awareness of bowel cancer and with the monies raised the Marsden team can take further strides into beating the Cancer beast.

There are too many doctors and nurses to name and thank but hopefully this evening will go some way towards showing my appreciation - I can't resist a special thank-you from the bottom of my heart to Professor Paris Tekkis, Dr Diana Tait, Dr Rapheal Teatino, Dr David Gertner and Dr Javaid Subhani. And finally, a big thank you to me Julie, for nagging me to go to the Doctor's in the first place ☺ x
