My story

Our Story
Happy New Year to all ! And for those we have not seen for sometime, we hope all is well and look forward to catching up soon.

As some of you will know, we are off to Rwanda in February to coach cricket in local schools on a trip organised by the charity Cricket Without Boundaries. We will be coaching hundreds of young people aged from 6-18, introducing them to the joys of cricket and educating them about health and equality.

We have been looking for a while to find something which will be both challenging and rewarding and so are very excited to be volunteering on this trip, which very much fits the bill.  Whilst our love of cricket may be somewhat different, we are both very keen to do something which will make a real difference to peoples lives.  Sarah is also hoping to be able to use the time to perfect her googly!

Cricket Without Boundaries is an amazing charity dedicated to empowering local communities to grow the game of cricket, whilst using the sport as a platform for health education and social change. In particular, it uses cricket as a tool in the fight against AIDS, inequality and to raise awareness of Female Genital Mutilation. Working in partnership with local cricket associations, foundations and sports development organisations, the charity ensures that the work creates a structure for sustainability and inclusivity to ensure that the game continues to be available for all. It has 3 main goals:

1.        Empower communities
2.       Coach children and train adults
3.       Link the game to messages and action on health and social issues.

CWB have asked that we do a fundraising to raise awareness for the charity. The funds raised will be used to cover the costs of CWB, and these include allowing equipment to be purchased for use in, and to leave with, the local schools and covering costs for CWB ambassadors. We are paying our own flight costs and expenses whilst there, and so 100% of the funds raised will go to CWB to support their projects and help locals continue their great work.
