My story

My Mum’s Story – Living With Cerebral Palsy
Cerebral palsy has been part of my life since the day I was born.
My brother and I were raised by an incredible woman—our mum—who has lived her entire life with cerebral palsy. Despite the challenges she has faced, she has always been the strongest person we know and the most inspiring role model anyone could ask for.
She never allowed her condition to define her or stop her from being an amazing mother.
However, the last decade has been extremely challenging for our family.
Getting the right medical support has often felt like an uphill battle. Accessing GP reviews can be difficult, especially now that many appointments begin over the phone. Even attending appointments requires careful planning around transport, carers, and accessibility.
Over the years, my mum has sadly lost her sight, much of her independence, and her mobility.
One of the hardest parts of this journey has been feeling like we’ve had to navigate it alone. We have rarely been directed to the right support services, charities, or therapies that could help someone living with cerebral palsy maintain the best possible quality of life.
That is why I have decided to take action.
I have run a couple of half marathons before, but this time I wanted to make it extra special by running for a cause that means so much to me, especially while my family and I navigate a particularly challenging time with my mum.
I want to raise awareness for cerebral palsy and help highlight the importance of regular reviews, proper assessments, and access to the therapies and support that people living with this condition truly need.
Through this fundraiser, I hope to make a difference—not just for my mum, but for other families who may also feel lost trying to navigate support systems.
Every donation, no matter how small, will help raise awareness and push for better access to support and therapies for those living with cerebral palsy.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for supporting this cause. Together we can make a difference.
