Our story

8 Million People - 1 Ventilator

As the UK struggles to come to terms with the coronavirus pandemic and our well-equipped healthcare system is threatened with being overwhelmed, the situation for those living in less developed countries is dire. As President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone addressed his people on national television, he warned that it is no longer a question of ‘whether’ the coronavirus will come to Sierra Leone, but ‘when’. The neighbouring countries now have the disease and Sierra Leone is desperately trying to prepare. But its situation is devastating; it’s reported that there is only one ventilator in the whole country and so the only hope lies in minimising the spread of the disease.

PFP has had a long-standing relationship with Sierra Leone and we want to help. Our protégés, the Future View Film Group, had great success with their video used to fight EBOLA. We’ve been in touch with them and they plan to swing into immediate action to produce and distribute a similar music video to educate people on ways to prevent the spread of Covid-19. The video will be suitable for distribution via mobile phones, radio, TV and social media. With your help, we can make this happen almost immediately so that vital information reaches communities straight away and people know how to protect themselves. This will save lives.

Thank you for checking out our page. Making a donation is fast, easy and secure thanks to Give as you Live Donate. They'll take your donation and pass it onto Purple Field Productions.

And now the Malawi video "Tingathe" (We Can) is out too! Do take a look on Youtube at https://youtu.be/ZJdjL4II1hg We hope you will agree that, like the one from Sierra Leone, it carries the all-important message really well. Distribtion by social media and mobile 'phones is underway, and we plan to share the the video and audio with TV and raido stations in Lilongwe and Blantyre over the weekend. Soon all of Malawi will be singing with us "We can defeat Coronavirus".

The Sierra Leone Covid-19 music video, “Le wi protect wi sef” is now live on YouTube ! You can watch it at -https://youtu.be/yfffG7LzRlw Please share widely, especially to any contacts you have in Sierra Leone. We are beginning in-country distribution, starting with “viral marketing” through mobile phones. Depending on the state of lockdown, the video will also be distributed to Video Shacks and the music to the FM radio stations. We are currently investigating the best means of broadcasting it on television and will supply more news on this shortly.

And there is good progress in Malawi too ! Thank you all.

It’s wonderful! So generous have you been in response to this appeal, that our dream of making a second coronavirus music video – one especially for Malawi - is really happening. Already we have been able to send out the funds, and the song has been written. The Group out there are moving into production of the video itself. Malawi, like Sierra Leone, will shortly be ringing to a new song - one made locally in its own language and offering sound medical advice on how to avoid transmission of the virus - and to save lives. Thank you all. None of this could have happened without your support.

We’ve done it! Thanks to you, our Coronavirus Appeal is exceeding its target – and we are able to do even more than we originally planned! The music video, designed to help people in Sierra Leone protect themselves from the disease can now be finished, and we have started on one for Malawi as well.

The Sierra Leone video, “Let’s Protect” has a simple, but catchy sound track containing crucial medical advice recommended by the Sierra Leone Ministry of Health and Sanitation - and its impact is strengthened by actors illustrating points such as, keeping apart, hand washing, and covering a cough. With the content checked out and approved by the medical authorities, it is now in the final stages of production. News about Malawi coming soon. Thank you so very much.

Thank you so very much. Less than 24hrs after launching our appeal, the music video for Sierra Leone is already in production with singers delivering the message in all the major local languages (Krio, Temne, Mende, Limba, Loko and Filah). We expect it to be released very shortly - potentially saving many lives.

We simply could not have done this without your wonderful support. Thanks to your generosity, too, we are now able to look at the possibility of also making a music video to limit the spread of coronavirus in Malawi, another very poor country in a similarly desperate situation to Sierra Leone. More updates coming very soon. Please keep an eye on this site as the story unfolds.
