Cricket Without Boundaries - Rwanda - Autumn 2024

Event dates: 28th September 2024 – 13th October 2024

Nick Glanfield is raising money for Cricket Without Boundaries

My story

In September 2024 I will be leading a team of volunteers out to Rwanda for the charity Cricket Without Boundaries.  CWB is a charity that uses cricket to deliver health and social messages in countries around the world.  It works to promote equality, reduce HIV transmission through discussions around preventation, whilst linking this all to cricket coaching sessions.

The charity has three main goals:

  1. Empower Communities
  2. Coach children and train adults
  3. Link the game to messages and action on health and social issues

In order to cover the costs of the project, which includes transport, accommodation and cricket equipment that we will leave in Rwanda, I am looking to raise a minimum of £750 for the two week trip plus I will look to fund raise, with events. a further amount to cover flights and vaccinations.

Cricket Without Boundaries in Rwanda
Situated in the Great Lakes region of sub-Saharan Africa, Rwanda is known for its many hills and stunning scenery. Rwanda has a turbulent history but is rapidly developing with a lot of investment into the country.
The Rwanda Cricket Association (RCA) is the country’s cricketing governing body, based in Kigali. It gained International Cricket Council status as an affiliate country in 2003 and has been developing ever since. The Rwanda U19 Women’s national team qualified for the first ever U19 Women’s T20 World Cup in 2022, many of whom were first introduced to cricket by Cricket Without Boundaries.
With over 210,000 living with HIV, one of our focus areas will be preventation of HIV, talking to the young people within our sessions will be one of our key targets to achieve.
The team will also be promoting equality, Rwanda have a strong women's cricket set up, and we want to help ensure that the young people know that everyone can play cricket, so equality will be one of our key messages in our sessions.
