Cycle through Italy to support Kalayaan Community Ministries (3129)

We’ve done it!!!

Between the 7th to 21st October, we cycled 800 miles over 13 days through Italy from Pisa to Santa Maria di Leuca in the heel of Italy.

We were raising funds for our friends Ron and Joanna who head up a charity called Kalayaan Community Ministries.  It is not too late to help us raise money for the incredible work they do.

Kalayaan Community Ministries was started in 2008 by Ron and Joanna Domingo. They serve full time in the slums of Manila in the Philippines. Their main base is in the heart of Tondo which is Manila's largest slum. The area their centre is in is known as the "Dumpsite" - it is where some of the city's trash is dumped and sorted by families working and living there.

They have been building a team from within the local communities to lead the work that they are involved in. This includes:

* Running a Church and prayer room
*Food assistance programs
 *Infant, children and youth work
*Education for primary and high school aged children
*Scholarship programs for college and university
*Crisis response and trauma aftercare
*Community clinic and health ministry
*Play therapy
*Community clinic and health education

65p = a meal for a child
£52 = one month of college education
£29 = One trauma counselling session for one child

In recent weeks there has been a large fire on the dumpsite which has devastated homes in the area. Most of the team that usually help others have now lost everything. Yet, they are still helping to provide bedding, water, food, shelter, clothes and medicines.
