Development in Action India Summer 2017

Development in Action (DiA) is a UK registered charity (no. 1149279) which exists to promote global citizenship by improving understanding of and engagement in development issues amongst young people in the UK. For over 20 years DiA has connected young people in the UK with the issues affecting them and their fellow citizens around the world.
We achieve this through our four programme areas:
International volunteering in India
Global citizenship workshops in the UK
Campaigns and public events
The DiA blog and online community

DiA Summer Internship
This summer, after completing my degree at QMUL I will be spending just over 2 months in India, volunteering for the charity Deep Griha Society (DGS).
Deep Griha Society:
DGS is an independent charitable organisation working to better the lives of people living in the slums of Pune, India.

Through a range of family welfare programmes encompassing education, health, awareness building and self-help projects, DGS helps thousands of beneficiaries within Pune and several nearby villages.

Volunteering:
I won't know exactly what I will be doing during my 2 month placement at DGS, but I could be doing anything from office support, fundraising, assisting the charity's staff, or working directly with the users of the charity's various programmes.

Where do your donations go:
Your donation will help support the work DGS and DiA continue to do
Sustaining and expanding the development education work we are doing with schools in the UK engaging GCSE and A-level student in global issues such as citizenship, climate change or human rights.
Facilitating our yearly Speaker Events on Global citizenship featuring leading development and government professionals.
Increasing awareness about DiA's work and engaging a wider audience through fundraising events in the UK.
Providing detailed training and orientation for our volunteers in India and in-country support whilst on placement.
