Esther's Half Marathon for The Mary Wood Trust

On 9th June 2013 I will be running the Southend Half Marathon in order to raise some money to help kit out a new sick bay at Nyakabungo Girls Secondary School in Uganda. The sick bay building itself is being raised by The Mary Wood trust (Visit marywoodtrust4uganda.org for more information) and the parents of the school girls, but more money is needed for beds, mattresses, desks, cupboards, plumbing etc.

The sick bay is a very important project that will enable better treatment for the girls studying at the school who fall ill, particularly with malaria which is a common illness in Uganda. This bay will reduce the chances of infectious diseases being spread around the school, provide a speedy recovery, and give the girls the attention they need rather than suffering illness in their live- in dormitories or having to go back home.

(I know 'Mary Wood Trust' sounds like the funds will go to me as I'm Esther Mary Wood, but Mary Wood was in fact the name of my lovely Gran! The charitable organisation was set up to encourage and support the education of young people in the Kinkiizi Diocese of South West Uganda)
