Five Ultra Marathons to Help Little Troopers Reconnect

I’m running five 50+ milers to raise £5,000 for military children and their families and I’d love your support.

This year I’ve signed up for something that’s going to push me to my limits five 50-mile ultramarathons over a calendar year - as part of the GB Ultras 50 Mile Slam. It's going to hurt (a lot), but I’m doing it for a cause that means the world to me: Little Troopers, and specifically their Reconnect Programme.

Little Troopers is a small UK charity with a huge heart. They support children whose parents serve in the British Armed Forces, whether regular or reserve. As someone who grew up as a military child, who’s also served, and who now works closely with military-connected children and young people, I’ve seen both the positives of service life and the quieter, harder bits that often go unnoticed.

Military children are proud. They’re resourceful. They adapt quickly, take change in their stride, and often grow up wise beyond their years. But they also carry a lot, time apart from parents, missed birthdays, constant moves, school transitions, and the weight of worry.

That’s why I’m running these ultras to raise £5,000 for the Reconnect Programme, a beautiful initiative that gives families a chance to stop, breathe, and just be together. Whether it's a day out, a group activity, or something simple like sharing time and space without distraction, it's all about helping families rebuild that closeness after the distance.
But that’s only part of what Little Troopers do.

Why Little Troopers?
Little Troopers exists to make sure that every military child feels:

• Recognised – their lives and experiences are unique, and they deserve to be seen and understood.
• Included – no child should feel left out or disadvantaged because of their parent’s job.
• Celebrated – they are part of a special community, and their strength should be a source of pride.

From school resources to wellbeing packs, storybooks, support through deployment, and group events, Little Troopers is there for military children through every part of their journey.
Their values line up closely with mine. This challenge is more than just about the running it’s about showing up for a community that’s so often quietly holding everything together.
