Leeds Half Marathon for Leeds North and West Foodbank

Food is an everyday necessity, and as a final-year Nutrition student, I now know more than ever before about how what we eat shapes our health, our energy, and our wellbeing. But the more I've learned, the harder it is to ignore that for too many people, access to food isn't a given, it's a daily uncertainty.

That's why this May, I'm running the Leeds Half Marathon in aid of Leeds North & West Foodbank, a charity doing essential work right here in Leeds.

Leeds North & West Foodbank provides emergency food to people facing hardship across the North & West of Leeds. In 2025 alone, over 18,000 people were supported through their seven foodbank centres (soon to be eight), alongside holistic signposting to help people access wider support. The charity believes no one should need to use a foodbank and campaigns to end the need for them. Until then, they continue to make sure people can access essential food and support in a time of crisis.

Food insecurity isn't just about hunger; it affects physical health, mental wellbeing, concentration, and quality of life. Everyone knows what it feels like to be hungry, but not everyone knows when or where their next meal will be. Leeds North & West Foodbank do incredible work to support those facing hardship.

For me, this half marathon is my next biggest challenge. But it's nothing compared to the physical and emotional challenges of not knowing where your next meal will come from. I would greatly appreciate any support you could give to this charity, which provides vital support to the Leeds community. Every pound you donate helps make sure that when someone in Leeds reaches a crisis point, there's somewhere they can turn.
