Fundraising with Violin performance

Elizabeth, Georgia, Mason and Harrison are taking part in a Violin Performance to raise funds for the local children and families who use DEBRA on 26/05/2026. 

One of our neighbours, Sue and David, has a grandson who was born with Epidermolysis bullosa (EB), a rare, painful and life-limiting condition. His skin is as fragile as a butterfly’s wings — it can blister or tear from the slightest touch or even mild heat, such as sunlight. Because of this, even simple acts of affection, such as a hug, are often not possible without causing pain. To protect himself, he has to be covered in layers of clothing, even during the height of summer.

During this incredibly difficult time, DEBRA provides vital care, guidance and support to the family. Sue and David remain deeply grateful for the help they have received. In return, despite being over 80 years old, they continue to take part in fundraising challenges, including running the Worcester 10k in their 80s and completing 100km challenges in their late 70s, to support DEBRA and help other families facing the same struggles.

Inspired by their story, Elizabeth, George, Harrison and Mason have chosen to take on a fundraising challenge (Mini Blue Award) for school. They will be performing a selection of Suzuki violin pieces in aid of DEBRA outside Marks & Spencer Foodhall at Selly Oak Birmingham on next Tuesday afternoon at 2-4pm.

DEBRA supports children and families living with EB by providing specialist care and funding research into treatments for this devastating condition, for which there is currently no cure.

Through this fundraising effort, we hope to raise awareness of EB and support the important work of DEBRA. Any donation, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated and will help make a difference to families like our neighbours.
