Why I’m Running the Paris Marathon for DEBRA
In April 2024, I’ll be running my 8th marathon, the Paris Marathon, and I couldn’t be more determined to push myself further, not just for me, but for my family.

This will be my first marathon outside of London, and as I lace up my running shoes, I’ll be thinking about my loved ones who live with Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB), a rare genetic condition that causes the skin to be incredibly fragile, often resulting in painful blisters and wounds from the slightest friction or injury.

I’ve always said I’d run 10 marathons, but this time, it’s about more than just crossing the finish line. It’s about raising awareness and funds for DEBRA, the charity dedicated to researching EB, improving the quality of life for those affected, and, most importantly, finding a cure.

It’s heartbreaking to watch my family endure daily pain and distress as they tend to their wounds—something many of us take for granted. Simple activities that most people can do without a second thought, like going for a walk or even enjoying a day out, become a battle against the painful reality of EB. They can’t participate in sports, holidays, or outings without considering the immense physical toll it could take on their bodies. The constant struggle against friction, heat, or even the wrong fabric can be overwhelming. It’s a pain that’s not always visible, but it’s always there.

I can’t change their condition, but I can raise my voice—and my feet—to support them. Running this marathon is a way for me to give back, to contribute in some small way to the tireless efforts of DEBRA, and to honor the strength, resilience, and courage shown every single day by those living with EB.

I am running with them in mind, and for everyone affected by EB, in the hope that one day we’ll find a cure. Your support, whether it’s through donations, kind words, or simply sharing this cause, will help make that day a reality.
