Our story

H2H4TK is about two friends celebrating the life of a close mate.  A mate, a father, a brother, a son and husband, who died well before his time.

The ride will take Phil and Ben on a trip through Tom's past, using a mode of transport he was often partial to.

Tom Kempton was born in Shrewsbury.  He lived in Church Stretton until the age of 3, when he moved to Hereford (the first 'H').

Tom and his mum then moved to Newton Abbot when he was 16, and Tom enrolled at Exeter College.

After a short excursion studying film at the University of East Anglia in Norwich, Tom returned to Devon, and soon discovered a love of carpentry. Woodwork would go on to be a constant in Tom's life, in various forms, from creating wonderful buildings to carving beautiful spoons and bowls.

After meeting a beautiful young woman (at a yoga class in Totnes), Tom and Kate embarked upon a life together, marrying and having two incredible children in Miriam and Zac, and making a home together in the village of Harberton (the second 'H').

Tom spent many years riding his bike from Harberton to his work at Carpenter Oak in Cornworthy, and Ben will be riding Tom's meticulously maintained bike on the journey from Hereford to Harberton.

The ride will be a celebration of Tom's life.  As well as featuring places that notably featured in Tom's life, we will doubtless be accompanied by feelings of sadness for the friend who is no longer with us, but also pride and privilege for having shared Tom's life with him... and there will be plenty of laughs, because Tom did like a laugh!

But the ride isn't just for us, it is also to raise money for a charity that helped Tom and Kate enormously in their last months together.  We'd love to have your support, be it in spirit, on the road, or with a donation to Cancer Lifeline.  Most importantly, we want to share and celebrate the memory of the legend that was TK.  Peace, love and tailwinds, P & B.
