Half Marathon for UP

On October 12th, 2025, I’ll be running my second half marathon in support of UP – an incredible charity dedicated to raising awareness and support for adults living with Cerebral Palsy.

Anyone who knows me will know about my brother Matthew. At just three months old, he survived a cot death. Although he was miraculously brought back to life, the incident left him with severe brain damage, and he was later diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Matthew cannot walk nor talk (he has limited speech), but he communicates by using a head switch or just with his eyes. He’s incredibly bright, deeply thoughtful, a whiz with technology—and one of my best ever friends. (He might disagree)

I knew I wanted to run for a charity devoted to those with CP, but I was keen to find a smaller charity that aimed to help adults with CP specifically. As soon as I found UP I knew I had to fundraise for them!

From personal experience, there’s a significant lack of support for those over 21. Matthew often expresses feelings of loneliness and frustration at the limitations he has to face. The lack of care also places a heavy strain on parents especially as they themselves get older - which is a big concern of mine as my parents reach their 70s.
