My story

Hiya - if you're here it's because you have been invited to my birthday meal!

My first birthday gathering in 2022 was born from a deep desire to bring friends and family together after the long social isolation of the Covid lockdown—it was a Palestinian feast. Since then, it’s become a bit of a tradition: celebrating my birthday by celebrating Palestinian culture through food, music, and hospitality.

Though last year, I stopped using the word “feast,” in recognition of the horrific reality that starvation is once again being used as a weapon of war against Palestinians.

As last year, instead of a present, please would you consider making an entirely non obligatory donation to the Sheffield Palestine Gaza relief fund. The fund is helping Palestinian children and their families at this time of greatest and most desperate need. You can find out more about the fund here but, also, on the night Jonny, my dear friend and a trustee of the charity, will talk more on the huge ongoing effort that your donations will support.

Thank you very much - see you there - please bring whatever you'd like to drink, and wear whatever makes you happy! With love, Jawad xxx

Thank you for checking out my page. Making a donation is fast, easy and secure thanks to Give as you Live Donate. They'll take your donation and pass it onto Sheffield Palestine Cultural Exchange.

My updates

Many thanks to everyone who came to the meal and also to everyone who donated. We've raised a lot of money for some much needed support and given solidarity. I'm sharing a video below about the Children's Film Project that SPaCE trustee Jonny was talking about. And also a picture of the food before it was demolished! Again, so many thanks.

Thank you all for your very kind donations which are now well beyond the original target. Every penny goes to support relief work in Gaza. Which is now into its 63rd day without food or medical aid. It's brutal and medieval siege.

We will eat together to celebrate Palestinian culture; to eat in anger, protest, solidarity and love.

Below is a photo I took of a roadside food stall in the West Bank. The giant cauliflowers are from the Jordan Valley, in the rich and fertile east of Palestine. We're having cauliflower fritters tonight!

Thank you!

Halfway there! Thanks to everyone who has donated.
This video helps to illustrate the desperate need, and also explains  some of the reasons for this disaster. I could sum it up in three words though - brutal medieval siege.  Much love and thanks. xxx
