My story

John Wood and Mel Wood-Smith have signed up to the Spine Race Winter Challenger South Race: 108 miles from Edale to Hawes on the Pennine Way.

It's in January (that's WINTER!), it's non-stop (so no overnight camps), it's unsupported, it's 108 miles with a 60 hour cut off, there is over 5000m of ascent and they don't stop the race for the weather! There will be almost 16 hours of darkness so we'll be out day and night in all weathers, carrying all the gear and food needed to stay safe and keep us going. It's going to be hard mentally and physically. We're going to be very broken.

So, help us make this act of madness all worthwhile. Mountain Rescue Search Dogs England (MRSDE) like all things Mountain Rescue is a charity run 100% by volunteers and funded by donations. The search dogs are deployed by Mountain Rescue Teams to find lost or missing people. MRSDE makes it possible to train the amazing search dogs and their handlers. But the dogs, handlers and dogs bodies require training venues and specific equipment to make what they do possible. So please, make our misery worthwhile and give a little bit to help keep the dogs on the hills. Every penny will make the miles easier.

Both Mel and John are involved in MRSDE. John is an Mountain Rescue Search dog Handler with his 6 year old Boarder Collie, Search Dog Willow. Mel is a dogsbody for the search dogs (dogs bodies hide for the dogs on the hills as they find real people in their training).

Thank you for taking the time. Every bit helps to enable MRSDE to keep finding people with our amazing 4 legged friends.

To have a search dog you also need to be part of a Mountain Rescue Team, so we also have a fundraising page for Holme Valley Mountain Rescue Team (our team) since without our Mountain Rescue Teams, we'd have no dogs.

Thank you for checking out my page. Making a donation is fast, easy and secure thanks to Give as you Live Donate. They'll take your donation and pass it onto Mountain Rescue Search Dogs England.
