John's Hardmoors Ultramarathon Grandslam

Event date: 23rd May 2015

John Pickford is raising money for The Island Mentoring Scheme

My story

I would like to raise sponsorship for my attempt on the Hardmoors Grandslam - a series of 4 Ultramarathons on the North Yorkshire Moors. It started with 30 miles on New Years Day, continues with 55 miles on 21 March and peaks with 110 miles on 23 May, before a 60 mile "coastal stroll" in September. Overall its 255 miles of trail running with 13,500m of ascent :). hardmoors110.org.uk

I was recently horrified to witness the aggression from a father to his daughter, with a real threat of violence. This highlighted how kids in these situations need immediate support backed with long term solutions, which requires organisations like The Island N1 in York.

The Island N1 works directly to support vulnerable 8 ? 13 year-olds in York who are struggling to cope at home, at school, or in the wider community, or who are experiencing difficult transitions in their lives.

The Island N1 links these young people with volunteer mentors with whom they meet on a weekly basis over the course of a year (or longer if required). This allows them to develop supportive, ongoing relationships, whilst also providing them with the undivided attention and ?islands of space and time? they need to increase their confidence and self-esteem, participate in worthwhile recreational activities, and move forward in their lives.

If you would like to support please be assured that whatever you can give will be gratefully recieved; and will make a difference.
