My story
My name is John Fisher and ian a dairy farmer from Cumbria. I ran my 1st marathon at Rob Burrow Leeds marathon in 2023. I was into running and was inspired to enter the Leeds marathon by the courage and bravery shown by Rob Burrow in his battle with MND. I was also aware of the amazing efforts of his mate Kevin Sinfield. I did the 2023 marathon running to raise money for the Leeds hospitals charity to build the Rob Burrow MND unit. Immediately after completing the gruelling marathon I decided I needed to sign up for 2024. This time I raised money for MNDA. I was again overwhelmed by the occasion and on meeting up with Dominic from the MNDA at the after marathon reception I was asked if I would do the Leeds marathon again- my immediate reaction was I need a new challenge to which Dominic said he would do all he could to get me an entry into the London marathon running for the MNDA ( which he duly arranged very quickly) Around 2 weeks after the 2024 Leeds marathon I was sat on my tractor making silage when I heard the sad news over the radio that Rob Burrow had passed away- my immediate reaction was I had the urge to run the Leeds marathon in 2025 in Robs memory. I have entered the Leeds marathon and will be running in an inflatable cow suit as part of a herd of runners that Jim Bulman a firefighter from Durham has organised( Jims brother and my dairy farming freind has been diagnosed with MND). Lastly I intend to enter the Edinburgh marathon in late May as I am also raising money for the my names 5 doddie foundation and have connections to the Scottish Borders where doddie is from.
