John Schutzer-Weissmann is raising money for Lejeune Clinic For Children With Down Syndrome

My story

I really don't like asking people for money - one of the reasons why I've only just managed to bring myself to set up this page! And I've always been a bit cynical when it comes to people asking for money for them to do something like going to Paris for the weekend to run a half marathon (no one has ever asked me to sponsor them to empty the dishwasher or take out the bins).

BUT this is different! I am doing this because I really want to raise money for the Lejeune clinic. They do amazing work to train and support children with Down syndrome, their parents and carers. This supplements NHS care, providing very practical interventions which have been shown to have consistent, meaningful and sustained benefits. This charity is effective but also efficient, so your money is going to make a direct impact on children with Down syndrome and their families.

Why Paris? Why support me to run there? Well, happenstance mainly but a happy one as it was where Dr Lejeune was from and where he worked. As for me, I have funded my entry, travel, accommodation etc. as you would expect but I will also put my money where my mouth is: I am aiming to run this half marathon is under 1h45m and aspiring to run it in 1h40 mins. So, for every minute under 1h45, I will match 10% of total that my sponsors raise.

So, somewhat nervously, I implore you to dig deep and give generously to this fantastic cause!
