Linda’s 100 Miles in May

Many of you know that I was diagnosed with Malignant Melanoma in July 2023. The diagnosis came from a mole that I had had concerns about and had checked twice by a GP - I was dismissed both times despite it growing larger and having two colours - both characteristics of melanoma. I’ve had successful surgery and will be under surveillance for 5 years now.

But I had no appreciation of the mental battle that goes with this diagnosis. I also had little insight into how ignorant people are when it comes to skin cancer. Melanoma is a killer. Your skin is the single biggest organ and with progression, melanoma can spread to anywhere in your body quickly. Yet people still talk about ‘just’ or ‘only’ skin cancer.  Melanoma causes around 2,300 deaths in the UK each year. Most cases are preventable, but melanoma is the 5th most common cancer in the UK.

So, to raise awareness and some good old cash for charity, I’m walking 100 miles in May. I’m grateful for your support.
