Lucy’s Running London For Breast Cancer Now

London Marathon was always on my bucket list, and after 9 years of rejections, I was lucky enough to have recieved a ballot spot last year. Four weeks before my marathon though, my Mum was diagnosed with breast cancer. As I made my way around those sweaty 26.2 miles, I was thinking of what was to come for my Mum.
Fortunately, she made a great recovery, and with the excellent care and support she recieved, she was back to parkun two days post-op, juggling her radiotherapy with her community work and is still causing mischief. 

Breast cancer is a disease that affects so many of us. My Grandma was diagnised shortly before the COVID pandemic, and was having radiotherapy during lockdown. One of my close amazing friends was treated about a year ago, and her resiliance and attitude throughout was so inspiring. Despite drains and surgery, she was still getting out to volunteer for the elderly and vulnerable. I've had neighbours, friends at work and their families all affected by breast cancer. 

This year, it was back to normal procedings, and I was once again rejected from the ballot, however, I was priviledged enough to be offered a place to run London again, for Breast Cancer Now. 

The support that charities like Breast Cancer Now provide is incredible - from funding the amazing breast care nurses, to the research behind beating this diease and even the information leaflets of post-op physio exercises. I am so lucky that the amazing women in my life that have had breast cancer have been able to recover and carry on with their lives. know that not everyone is in that position, but Breast Cancer Now are aiming to make sure that everyone diagnosed with breast cancer lives, and is supported to live well. 
That's why I'm off to have a second crack at London, but this time, with a real reason to run.
