Leukaemia Unit Appeal Fund - Peru Trek 2014

Event date: 1st May 2014

rebecca lockley is raising money for Leukaemia Appeal Fund for Dudley

My story

The Leukaemia Unit Appeal Fund is a charity supporting the patients and staff of the Georgina Unit, Russells Hall Hospital. Through this charity, services and projects are funded to improve the quality of life of cancer patients and their loved ones. Patients with both Haematological and oncological malignancies benefit from the charity's work through the development of the unit and its facilities, the provision of equipment, staffing, training and non-medical support such as the use of holiday homes, which offer a break from the routine of treatment. All funds raised from this event will go to furthering this good work.
During May 2014, members of C4 nursing staff and clinical psychology, Emma Thoms, Becky Lockley and Dr John Donohue will be undertaking a trek in Peru to raise funds for the unit. The 10 day trip will involve several demanding days climbing, each consisting of up to 7 hours walking and reaching heights of 4,800m. The trio will commence their trek along the Inca Trail and finish at Machu Picchu, with nights spent camping on the ice capped mountain. With varying levels of fitness and experience within the group this climb is likely to prove challenging for all and training has already begun. Progress over the coming months will be posted on the charities Facebook page and website.
