Danny Murray is raising money for Alzheimer's Society and St Gemma's Hospice
As most of you will know, I love a challenge and this year I've gone and entered two challenges with only a short two week gap between. First, I'm taking on the Mallorca 312 on the 27th April. This is 312 KM (195 miles) on a tour of the island through the mountains then back on the flatlands. Once I return to Leeds, I'll then get myself prepared for the hilly Rob Burrow Marathon on the 12th May.
The inspiration for me doing this came after I went to spectate at the Rob Burrow Marathon last year. I stood watching the weary runners coming along Leeds Road after the big long climb. The hairs went up on the back of my neck as I thought, I need to do this whilst it's in my home city. A thought which no doubt I'll regret on the day!
I've always loved running, but around 10 years ago I found cycling and I love that sport in equal measure if not more. This year my club Valley Striders CC are heading to Mallorca and 8 of us have signed up to do the 312 event. This is a big ride and will test me to the max, a full day in the saddle where I'll need to dig deep to get round before it gets dark.
The challenge has been, and will continue to be, keeping my training going for both events, something I've never tried before. Training for one event is hard, but two means I've been on long rides on Saturdays and long runs the following day with weary legs.
I know I can do it though with my Yorkshire grit and determination but if you would be kind enough to sponsor me, that will give me added motivation to get me round both events. My two chosen charities are the Alzheimers Society and St Gemma's Hospice, both causes close to mine and my family's hearts with the proceeds being split 50:50.
Thank You!
