Another 'serious' walk today, a total of 11 miles. The walk was 'interupted' by lunch at the Abbeydale Golf Club, so not too much of a challenge. However, on this occasion it was an opportunity for me to test my wet weather gear. When I started off from home it was dry, but the rain soon set in and lasted for the rest of the walk and all the way home again. Importantly, though my feet were wet (non-waterproof footwear), the rest of me was not too bad. I suspect much of the damp under my waterproof jacket was internal condensation. A reminder to wash and waterproof my jacket before March!
My other goal for this week is to undertake several walks on consecutive days (nearly 7 miles yesterday and another 7 miles tomorrow). Not as far as we will be walking on the Camino, but plenty of hills to go up and down, this being Sheffield.
No photos because of the rain!

My story
Mary and daughter Eleanor have completed long walks together before (Hadrian's Wall path and the Coast to Coast, with son Edward too). This seemed a really good opportunity to try part of one of the Camino de Santiago routes, as well as fundraising for the Archer Project and CWNN in Sheffield. Mary volunteers with the Archer Project and is a keen singer too. She is a member of one of the Sheffield choirs and knows the many benefits of singing in a group.
The Archer Project is a Sheffield charity which may be found at the back of Sheffield Cathedral. They work with homeless and vulnerable adults providing free and subsidised food, health and hygiene facilities and access to other services.
For more information visit the website archerproject.org.uk. Charity number 1064818.
The Choir with No Name is a national charity which runs choirs with people who've experienced homelessness and marginalisation. Rehearsals are weekly, and afterwards members sit down for a hot meal together. The choir communities become a family where a conventional one may not exist, and empower members to make friends, have fun and get back on a path to a positive future. Currently, there are choirs in London, Birmingham, Brighton, Cardiff, Coventry and Liverpool with the most recently established in Sheffield, where rehearsals are held at the Cathedral.

My updates
Now Christmas is over, Eleanor and I are now taking our walking training more seriously. However, as Eleanor runs several times a week the training is really for me! We had a family walk on Monday of this week to a friend's house in Deepcar over 10 miles away, where tea and mince pies awaited us. The route took us along part of the River Don, through Beeley, Hollins and Wharncliffe Woods, with a steep climb at the end through the Deepcar housing estate.
Yesterday, Eleanor and I enjoyed the sunshine on Derwent Edge, but we were also confronted by gusty winds and frozen ground. Another 10 mile walk under our belts, this time with a welcome warm drink at Fairholmes. Where next?
I (Mary) recently completed a training walk with a friend. The original plan was to walk 10 miles between Totley and Moscar, but this became extended by another 4 miles. After enjoying watching ‘human kites’ flying above Stanage Edge, we descended towards the A57, but our bus could be seen below on the road, and we were still another 10-minutes from the bus stop. Rather than wait 3 hours for the next bus, or walk along the busy A57, we decided to walk to Low Bradfield where the buses were more frequent. A lovely, but rather brisk walk, in sunshine through woods and near to very low reservoirs. We caught our bus with three minutes to spare!
