26.2 miles for the Sussex Cancer Fund

Event date: 14th October 2012

Matt Margrett is raising money for SUSSEX CANCER FUND FOR TREATMENT AND RESEARCH

My story

For the last 30 years the Sussex Cancer Fund has been making valuable improvements to the Cancer Centre at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton. From state of the art equipment, to an improved patients' lounge, to the paintings hanging on the walls, the Fund has been helping patients through the ordeal of radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Over the last 18 months my mum has been one of the thousands of beneficiaries of the Fund's work, and now I'd like to raise some cash to say thank you.

So I've decided to run the Liverpool Marathon on the 14th October. It's my first marathon and so it's not clear yet whether I'm physically capable of 26.2 miles, but run, walk or crawl I'll finish the course. Any amount you can afford to donate will be hugely appreciated and will go towards making life that little bit more comfortable for Sussex's cancer patients.

Here's what your money could buy:

£35 buys a DAB digital radio. The Cancer unit wants two for patients to use in the chemotherapy unit.

£20 gets ebooks for the centre's e-readers.

£900 for speed heat warming pads. For chemotherapy patients to raise their veins and provide comfort during treatment.

£5000 refurbishes the waiting room - which needs a total makeover. It would be great to contribute towards this much needed improvement.

All donations gratefully received!
