Roly Cronshaw is raising money for Dementia Forward
What is Dementia?
The word ‘Dementia’ is an umbrella term for a range of progressive conditions that affect the brain. Dementia stops brain cells working properly. This can often result in memory loss, confusion, problems with speech, problems understanding. This will get worse over time. Whilst dementia is more prevalent in those aged over 65, it can affect people as young as 45. It is debilitating and makes life and living increasingly difficult.
And, of course, there are those who look after the people living with dementia. Partners, family and friends also suffer watching, over time, the slow deterioration of their loved ones, whilst taking time themselves to help and support them.
Dementia cannot be cured. However, Dementia Forward is an organisation which offers assistance and help to those living with dementia and carers alike.
As the Mayor of Pocklington Town in the East Riding of Yorkshire, I am aware of how many people are living with dementia there are in our community and how family and friends struggle to understand the problems that they are faced with in caring for their loved ones, and this is the same where-ever you live. Working with Dementia Forward, they have agreed that all money raised in this appeal will go towards extending Dementia Forward’s Dementia Support Advisor who will be able to support families with practical advice and information from pre diagnosis onwards.
Please, if you can, give generously. The chances are very high that you will know someone who desperately needs this support.
