Our story

Mick has decided to take on the insane challenge of running 120km across the desert in November 2025* competing in the Marathon des Sables in Jordan.

The Marathon des Sables Jordan is a ultramarathon run over several days in extreme desert conditions. Participants face intense heat, rugged terrain including sand dunes and rocky trails, and must carry their own food and gear, with only water and shelter provided. It is a huge challenge, as the environment, self-sufficiency requirements, and cumulative fatigue push both physical and mental limits.

As tempted as she was, Laura is blaming her crappy knee and opting out of the 120km sand-filled (in awkward places) run but will complete several ‘smaller’ events leading up to Mick's big event in November, starting with the MND 7/7 challenge in December.

Mick and Laura have chosen two charities close to their hearts.

As Mick is a British Army veteran, they will be raising money for the British Legion who do incredible work across the UK supporting the British Armed Forces. The BL have 180,000 members and support people from day one in the military and throughout their lives. They provide much needed to support to veterans who are struggling to adjust to civilian life as well as to families who have lost loved ones whilst serving in the British Military. Their work is invaluable and much needed.

Laura has chosen to support the Motor Neurone Disease Association to help raise awareness and some vital funds for this amazing charity. MND affects up to 5,000 adults in the UK at any one time. Laura's close friend Emma Bray (check out stupid_mnd on Instagram) is currently living with MND since being diagnosed in July 2023, and is an absolute superstar raising as much awareness as she can about this awful disease. Laura's ex-David Lloyd colleague Phil Payne recently passed away having been diagnosed with MND in October 2023 and the MND association has provided fantastic support to both Emma, Phil and their families since their diagnoses.

Times are tough right now they know, but any donation, big or small will be much appreciated and will go towards two amazing charities doing so much good right now.

Thank you so much for your donation!

*Mick was originally competing in May however unfortunately, due to lack of attendance (who would have thought it?! 🤔😂) it was cancelled, so he has now transferred to the Nov ‘25 event.
