Neonatal unit - Leighton Hospital

On the 27th January 2022, our son,Leo David Hulse was born at 28 weeks in Leighton hospital, Crewe. Due to his prematurity and water loss at 20 weeks, Leo was extremely poorly. Fortunately, he was cared for by the neonatal staff, who not only saved his life for which we are eternally grateful for, they gave him the care and treatment to allow Leo to leave hospital without the need for any breathing support.

The 12 weeks we spent in hospital were an unbelievable rollercoaster, but Leo is now an incredible strong, happy boy who loves life.

As a family, we would like to give back to the ward by raising money to allow them to buy items such as cooling mattresses, breast pumps ( We borrowed one of these, and they are incredible) and bilibed blankets, which allow babies to continue their jaundice treatment whilst having vital skin to skin contact.

We have set ourselves the following challenges:

Jessica, Leo’s big sister, is competing in her first ever duathlon at the age of 6 on the 16th September! She needs to run 100m, bike 1000m then run another 500m. She absolutely adores her brother and is determined to do her best.

Andy, Leo’s Daddy and his Uncle Jaybo, are running the Chester Marathon on the 8th October! Both have trained incredibly hard, with this being Uncle Jaybo’s first ever marathon! Andy is also looking to take at least 30 minutes off his PB of 4hours 6 minutes.
