Our story

Nigel’s Story…

Nigel was born in March 1953 and has always had an outgoing and inquisitive nature. He first learned to play the drums with the Yoruba tribe in Lagos, Nigeria having spent a few summer holidays whilst his father was working there. Nigel has drummed throughout his life and continues to do so even now. The other passion Nigel has is cycling. He regularly competed in junior time trials and even raced against Beryl Burton!

After a career teaching performing arts at both Wakefield and Chesterfield Colleges (while also being a property developer), Nigel became an executive coach and mentor specialising in emotional intelligence and personal development. He was known for his dynamic approach to helping individuals and organisations unlock their potential. In addition to his coaching practice, Nigel has achieved recognition for his physical endurance feats, holding three world records and appearing on Stan Lee's 'Superhumans' in both the USA and UK.

Nigel was diagnosed with Young Onset Alzheimer’s Disease in January 2022. Due to this, Nigel wants to continue to inspire others whilst giving back to the charity that have supported both him and his wife, Emma. Nigel wants to show people who are living with dementia and their carers that there is a life to be lived, there are still things that you can do.
Lavender Fields Care Village is home to Nigel and Emma, and also Ballerina House which is one of Dementia Forward's Hubs.

The distance from Lavender Fields to Lagos is just under 5,000 miles and so in honour of Nigel’s passions - drumming and cycling - in 2025 Nigel is undertaking Lavender Fields to Lagos Virtual Cycle!
