Oli Kay — March of the Day 3

On Monday June 1 I’ll be among a group of walkers setting off from Anfield, Liverpool as part of “March of the Day 3” to raise money and awareness for the Darby Rimmer Motor Neurone Disease Foundation and Leeds Hospital Charities.

MND is a degenerative condition that attacks the brain, spinal cord and nervous system. There is, as yet, no cure.

As the crow flies, it’s 74 miles from Anfield to Leeds. But we’re taking a wild 350-mile route, walking day and night, stopping at 50 football and rugby league grounds en route — Everton, Widnes Vikings, Warrington Wolves, St Helens, Leigh Leopards, Atherton Collieries, Wigan Athletic/Warriors, Bolton Wanderers, Chorley, Preston North End, Longbridge Town, Blackburn Rovers, Accrington Stanley, Burnley, Rochdale, Bury, Salford City, Sale Sharks, Manchester United, Swinton Lions, Altrincham, Wythenshawe Town, Stockport County, Manchester City, FC United of Manchester, Oldham Athletic, Huddersfield Town/Giants, Halifax Town/Panthers, Keighley Cougars, Bradford City/Bulls/PA, Brighouse Town, Batley Bulldogs, Dewsbury Rams, Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield United, Sheffield Eagles, Barnsley, Wakefield Trinity, Featherstone Lions, Pontefract Collieries, Castleford Tigers, Huntley, Leeds United and Leeds Rhinos before finishing up — appropriately — at the Rob Burrow Centre in Leeds on Saturday evening.

Full disclosure: I’m only able to join for the first half of the walk before dropping out at Stockport County on Wednesday evening. And I’m only going to be able to do as much walking as my dodgy ankle and plantar fasciitis allow between now and Wednesday evening.
