Olivia & P’s Night of Hope

Event dates: 5th April 2024 – 6th April 2024

Olivia and Penelope are raising money for Whitechapel Centre and Liverpool Cathedral

Our story

Olivia, age 10, and Penelope, age 7 – two remarkable youngsters with hearts of gold and a shared dream of making a real difference in the lives of those less fortunate. Their mission is personal: to raise £100 in support of The Whitechapel Centre, where just £25 ensures someone who has slept rough can have a shower, warm food, and clean clothes – essentials often taken for granted but crucial for restoring dignity and hope.

Olivia and Penelope are participating in the Cathedral Sleepout from 7pm to 7am. Amidst the grandeur of Liverpool Cathedral, they will experience a glimpse of the challenges faced by those experiencing homelessness, all while shedding light on the issue and offering a beacon of hope for a better tomorrow.

Join them in this inspiring endeavor as they turn compassion into action, knowing that even the smallest contribution can create a ripple of change. Together, let's stand alongside Olivia and P as they champion the cause of compassion, dignity, and solidarity for all members of our community.

Your generosity and compassion fuel their mission, and they want you to know that every £1 counts in creating meaningful change. Your donation, no matter the amount, is deeply appreciated and makes a tangible difference in the lives of those in need. Thank you for standing alongside Olivia and Penelope.

Thank you for checking out our page. Making a donation is fast, easy and secure thanks to Give as you Live Donate. They'll take your donation and pass it onto Whitechapel Centre and Liverpool Cathedral.

Our updates

By 4 am, the chill of the night had seeped into my bones, despite the comfort of a pillow and a sleeping bag. I shivered, not just from the cold, but from the realisation of how fortunate we were. People endure this every night, with far less than what we had.In that moment, I understood the privilege of having a roof over my head, of having a warm bed to sleep in. But I also felt the weight of responsibility – to do more, to help those who weren't as lucky. As the first light came through the darkness, I hugged my children, grateful for their warmth and safety. Our sleepout had been eye-opening, experience that reminded us of the importance of empathy and compassion.

I couldn't shake the feeling of vulnerability creeping in. Last night we did a sleepout to raise funds for the homeless, and little did I know, it would give me just a glimpse into the harsh reality of not having a place to call home.

As 12am came, darkness enveloped us, but the fairy lights we had set up added a touch of warmth to our makeshift sleeping area. We bedded down for the night, surrounded by the grand walls of the cathedral. Yet, despite the sense of security they provided, I couldn't shake off the feeling of unease. Around 2 am, the stillness of the night was disrupted by noises and the sound of people passing by. Suddenly, I felt exposed, vulnerable even. How could I feel this way when I was still within the confines of the cathedral walls? But then it hit me – this was just one night for us, a voluntary one. For many, this was their daily reality, with no sanctuary to retreat to.  As my mind wandered, I couldn't help but think about those who didn't have the luxury of a cardboard box to call home. The walls of our makeshift shelter were flimsy protection against the elements, yet they were a luxury compared to the open streets.
