Financial Assistance For A Burns Unit in Jaffna Hospital, Sri Lanka

Event dates: 30th November 2008 – 31st December 2011

Kandiah Pathmaseni is raising money for Medical Institute of Tamils

My story

A special Unit to treat victims of 'BURNS' is very vital for a hospital. The need of one in Jaffna cannot be ignored or delayed further. The consequences otherwise have very devastating effects.

What is occuring is that more die and the few survivors end disfigured or maimed beyond belief, simply because of infection acquired by being treated in open wards, among other patients ailing from various other conditionsand infections. These heartbreaking outcomes could have been, and can be prevented. Infection can be avoided, lives can be saved and horrendous scars, physical deformity, restricted dexerity, emotional and psychological sufferings, dependency etc could be minimised by treating the victims in a clean unit solely for 'Burns' victims.

I have had first hand and personal experience and I was there at close quarters at the death of 'Burns' victims. These included children as young as 5 years of age. I have seen the social exclusion of those who were scarred for life. I still find it painful(after many years)to remember these incidences. These strong memories bring back these experiences to life and haunt me.
My pledge is to outreach you - kind people and seek your help in making my dream for a Burns Unit a reality.

As the Coordinator for Medical Institute of Tamils'(MIOT's) for the project, I very earnestly appeal for your financial support. The site for the unit has been located within the hospital and is estimated to cost around £50000.00.This unit will also incorporate a theatre for the correction of scars, deformity etc by surgery (plastic, skin graft etc.)

Every donation, however small it may be, is a big step towards buying bricks to erect the walls of the unit.

Altogether, we can, and are capable of saving lives and reducing disability, dependency and the social exclusion and sufferings of 'Burns' victims. Since the escalation of the ethnic war, numerous 'chemical'burns victims are reported. Please contribute as well as join me in raising funds for a long overdue cause. You are sure to be blessed for your very kindness and generosity.

Thank you most sincerely.
