Phil Burnett is raising money for Trailfam
At 6pm on Friday August 30th 2024 I will be setting off , along with 2500 fellow runners, from Chamonix in the French Alps on a journey of 170km around the Mont Blanc massif - along the way we'll climb 10,000 and pass through three countries (France, Italy and Switzerland). This iconic ultramarathon, the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc, follows the established hiking route of the Tour du Mont Blanc. The winners will likely manage to get back to Chamonix within 20 hours , for the rest of us anything under 46.5 hours gets us a finishers medal!
I've always loved endurance sports and realise how lucky I am to have the opportunity to participate in these fantastic events. Trail running is a fantastic and inclusive sport and Trail Fam provide a unique entry point into trail runnning for young people from all backgrounds - any donation you can make to this great charity through supporting my attempt at UTMB will be greatly appreciated and will help me on through those long hours when all I'll be wanting to do will be to lie down on the side of the trail and sleep!!
Thank you for checking out my page. Making a donation is fast, easy and secure thanks to Give as you Live Donate. They'll take your donation and pass it onto Trailfam.

UTMB- DNF
Unfortunately it wasn't to be my day(s!). First night went well, soaking up the amazing support and atmosphere. I think a combination of not keeping on top of my nutrition properly, a bit of dodgy stomach but mostly developing a groin muscle strain at around 40km which I thought i could keep on top of but got worse and eventually went into spasm with me hobbling down the descent off Grand col Ferret and missing the cut off at La Fouly (118k) by 30 minutes. No regrets though it was a great experience and a huge privilege to be in that start line in Chamonix.
